Confidence with GDPR

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a European data protection law that gives individuals more control over their personal information. It’s forced companies to reframe how they think about data privacy.

If you run any business that collects personal data, it is important to understand GDPR and how it’s being used. This course will outline the important information you need to know surrounding data protection and ensure you're keeping everything within the law (as the fines can be pretty hefty!)

This course is unique in the way it brings together world-class legal expertise with access to the author to ask those questions that you struggle with surrounding GDPR.

Why GDPR and Data Protection is so important to Recruiters

  • Recruiters process a lot of personal data, of candidates for employment agencies and of agency workers and contractors for employment businesses. This will include extra sensitive data, like health data, which requires additional protection. The fines can be severe for data protection breaches, up to 4% of global annual turnover or £17.5million, whichever is greater.

  • Recruiters might engage in high-risk processing, such as maintaining contact databases for a long time and which they use to conduct cold email and cold calling marketing. And so, it is especially important that they audit their practices and have appropriate safeguards in place, including data protection training for staff.

  • On the positive side, where good data protection practices can be a value add for the business, recruiters will often have to explain their data protection compliance programme when procuring into large clients or seeking investors or buyers. A solid approach to data protection compliance will be a commercial advantage.
